Proposal

Thesis:
My thesis project is a 3D short animation of about 2 to 3 minutes. In addition, I have two short stories to tell about of my two main characters. These two stories will be 2D animations to separate different from the 3D world. My goal is to make a clear and interesting story without any dialogues.

3D animation: Two 3D characters and two 3D environments.
Characters:
The first character is an old hero, who defeated lots of monsters. He likes to relive his glorious history.
The second one is the monster, who was a retired hero. The monster has a book about his heroic exploits.
Environment:
The first environment is the old man’s house, and this is the main setting of story. This is an old house, and the old hero’s memories, photos, badges and books are everywhere.
The second stage is a sick room in a hospital. In the end, the two characters will be sent to here and continue their fighting.

2D animation:
To tell each story in the books of the old man and the monster, I have two short animations. Because those two stories are in books, I want to make 2D animation to show that they are different from 3D world.
Characters in the old man’s book:
The human hero is a tall warrior with holy armor.
The monster is a big evil dragon, who kills every creature he sees.
Characters in the monster’s book:
The monster is an elegant and strong fighter.
The human is a wild, violent barbarian.

Character Design:
To make the two main characters easy to identify, I will give them different main color.

Software:
Maya: modeling, rigging, texturing, lighting, and animating.
Zbrush: modeling.
Flash: animating two short 2D animations in books
Photo Shop: create textures for 3D models, and elements in 2D animations.
After Effect: edit animation, add sound effect, and background music.

Publish:
DVD: This animation short.
Book: articles and pictures about this project.
